York graduate is Rotman Woman Entrepreneur of the Year

Kate Bird (BSc ‘93) was one of five winners of the 2002 Rotman Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year awards. She was recognized in late November at a special dinner and awards ceremony in Toronto. The awards are an annual initiative of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, which along with its sponsors, acknowledge the creativity, innovation and success of women entrepreneurs who are contributing in important ways to the growth and strengthening of Canada”s economy.

Bird, of Career Essentials Inc., was presented with the award by Deloitte & Touche in the Start Up category. Her company, which she started in 1998, specializes in upgrading the skills of unemployed, disabled or injured adults, easing this group”s re-entry into the Canadian workforce.
