President Lorna R. Marsden is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Fisher to the position of Chief Communications Officer at York University. Fisher brings with him more than 18 years of communications, advertising, public relations, direct response and branding expertise, in areas as diverse as retail, pharmaceutical, packaged goods and not-for-profit marketing. Prior to joining York, Fisher spent the past four years as managing partner and client services director at one of Toronto’s pre-eminent agencies, TWBA/Chiat/Day. He has also worked at Ogilvy and Mather in Toronto, and internationally at advertising agency Griffin Bacal DDB in both New York and London (UK), and at a leading public relations firm in Britain.
Fisher joins York at a transformational point in its evolution. Renowned for producing graduates who achieve groundbreaking success, York is dedicated to pushing beyond the boundaries, and to fostering a culture of tolerance, flexibility and originality. Fisher’s expertise in relating the strengths, uniqueness and innovation of organizations will be integral in helping York achieve the reputation and position it deserves as one of the world’s most important postsecondary academic institutions.
According to Marsden, “Mr. Fisher’s leadership will be instrumental in helping York to realize its status and pivotal role as an institution that challenges the ordinary, broadens the horizons of its students, and most importantly, redefines the possible. His close collaboration with faculty and staff in all parts of the University will yield the results we’re after.”
Richard Fisher assumes his position at York on Jan. 2, 2003.
