Marlon Nangle of the Lions track and field team set a new York University record in the triple jump with a performance of 15.25 metres at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal on Saturday. The result is also a new meet record for the 11-year-old event. Nangle, who captured gold at last year’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport Championship, is ranked No. 1 in Canada and is undefeated in the triple jump since Jan. 6, 2005. His mark of 15.25 metres 
surpasses the old school mark of 15.21 metres set by Nyjah James in 2004.

The track and field teams recorded nine personal-best and 19 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) qualifying performances at the McGill Team Challenge last weekend. Kaitlin Coopman finished first in the 600-metre run with a time of 1:34.85. Coopman’s result is four seconds better than her previous personal best. Ben Krul finished second in the men’s high jump with a result of 1.95 metres, while Paul Kosmas was second in the pole vault with a performance of 4.45 metres. Anthony Garber finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.71 metres, while Chris Theriau finished third in the men’s 60 metre hurdles in a time of 8.58. The track and field teams will host the 35th annual York Classic this Saturday at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
The women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games and remain in first place in the OUA East Division following a pair of weekend victories. Sarah Brodie shot 83.3 per cent from the floor, while scoring a game-high 15 points in Friday’s 61-39 win over RMC. In Saturday’s 69-49 victory over second place Queen’s, Brodie was 10-of-14 from the floor with a game-high 21 points. The Lions (14-3) will host Ottawa (4-13) on Friday and Carleton (9-8) on Saturday. Both games begin at 6pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
The men’s basketball team also defeated RMC and Queen’s on the weekend. Four players scored in double-figures in Friday’s 82-73 victory over the Paladins. Tut Ruach led the way with 20 points. Jordan Foebel and Rohan Steen both recorded double-doubles, Foebel with 15 points, 10 rebounds and Steen 14 points, 11 rebounds. Amde Evans added 14 points and six rebounds. Ruach scored a game-high 22 points in Saturday’s 62-61 win over the Golden Gaels. The Lions (10-7) will host No. 2 ranked Ottawa (16-1) on Friday and three-time defending national champion Carleton (15-2) on Saturday. Both games begin at 8pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
The defending OUA champion York men’s volleyball team increased its winning streak to six games with a pair of victories last week. York distributed the offence well in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Guelph. Adam Podstawka led the way with 10 kills, while James Battiston checked in with eight, Sholan Trivedi seven and Jordan Matthews six. Trivedi led the Lions with 13 kills, while Podstawka added eight kills in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Windsor. The Lions (11-5) host McMaster (12-4) on Thursday at the Tait McKenzie Centre (8pm). York plays at Toronto (9-7) on Sunday (1pm).
