The 24th annual Killer Instinct Excalibur Volleyball Classic begins at the Tait McKenzie Centre Friday, Jan. 3, kicking off the second half of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) men”s volleyball season. The eight-team tournament boasts the top five teams from the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and the number one team from the Quebec Student Sports Federation (QSSF).
The host York Yeomen (6-4, fourth in OUA) open the tournament against the Western Mustangs (5-5, fifth in OUA). The Yeomen started the season strong but struggled near the end of the first half due to a rash of injuries. Following a month off, York enters the second half of the season healthy and ready to challenge for the OUA title. York”s Domingo Miguel is third in CIS in kills (3.83/set) and fourth in points (4.75/set).
The tournament begins at 1pm Friday, Jan. 4 and runs through to Sunday, Jan. 5 with the championship final set for 3pm. Tournament passes can be purchased on site.
