This fall York is introducing a new all-in-one student photo ID card. The single YU-card will do triple duty as a sessional, library and meal-plan card – and won’t expire after one session. Eventually it will be the only card a student will ever need.
The card is nothing new to residence students, who made the change from the YorkCard to the YU-card in January. This fall, all other York students will receive the new YU-cards.
To avoid long line-ups this fall for the new card, students are being asked to submit their photo now online or have one taken at the YU-card Office on the Keele campus. The office is located in Room 119, William Small Centre, and open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. Those who submit their photo by April 28 will get a chance to win one of three Apple iPods.
Here’s how students can use their new YU-cards:
- as photo ID on campus for exams and OSAP pick-up
- as a York library card
- as a meal-plan card
- as a student ID card (e.g. for student discounts).
The YU-card replaces the York Card. It will eliminate the need for sessional identification cards. And eventually it will also provide access to York athletic facilities and retail and vending services.
It costs nothing — except $20 to replace a lost one.
When will the YU-cards be issued?
The YU-card will be ready to pick up in August 2006. Dates and locations will be posted via Notebox (through Passport York) and on the Web. Students must present one piece of photo ID to pick up the YU-card.
Glendon students will be able to have their photos taken at the Office of Student Programs, Room C102, York Hall, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. For information, call 416-487-6715.
