Nine thesis exhibitions showcase graduate students’ art

York’s Department of Visual Arts presents nine thesis exhibitions by students completing their master of fine arts degree. Two exhibits close tomorrow and others continue through April and into May.


This year’s exhibitions feature abstract and figurative paintings, sculptural works, photography and multimedia installations. They opened March 20 and continue until May 6 in campus and downtown galleries.


Today and tomorrow are your last chance to see the following two shows:



  • Lise Beaudry’s nostalgic photographs of Boler trailers, at the Glendon Gallery, today to 3pm and tomorrow 1-4pm.
  • Alison Judd’s print and drawing installations at the Student Gallery, Accolade West, today until 4pm. There will be a reception tomorrow 2-5pm.

See three exhibits at the Student Gallery, Accolade West on the Keele campus:



  • Sunny Kerr’s video installation, April 11-19. Reception April 13, 6-8pm.
  • Alison MacTaggart’s conceptual, object-based works, combining text and images, April 24-28. Reception April 25, 6-8pm.
  • Jeffrey Menzies’ sculptural works, May 1-6. Reception May 2, 6-8pm.

Four exhibits are being held off campus at Toronto galleries:



  • Plaskett Foundation Award Winner Jennifer Lefort’s large-scale abstract paintings, at Drabinsky Gallery, 122 Scollard St., April 1-29. Reception April 1, 2-5pm. 
  • Greenshields Foundation Award Winner Sholem Krishtalka’s large-scale figurative oil paintings, at Lennox Contemporary Art, 12 Ossington Ave., April 20-May 1. Reception April 20, 7-10pm. 
  • Laura Moore’s sculptural works, at Peak Gallery, 23 Morrow Ave. April 19-29. Reception April 22, 2-6pm.
  • Renee Lear’s viewer-interactive installation (projected in window and viewed from street), at Kensington Market, 273 Augusta Ave., April 17, 19, 21, 23, 25. Reception April 19, sunset-10pm.
