Buckman is delivering the keynote address at the Patient Safety Culture Symposium, organized by two York Faculty of Health professors to highlight the results of a national research project they led into measuring and improving patient safety in healthcare settings.
A popular public speaker, Buckman is an expert on interpersonal communication and best-selling author of I Don’t Know What to Say: How to Help and Support Someone Who is Dying, and co-author of How to Break Bad News: A Guide for Health Care Professionals and Magic or Medicine: An Investigation of Healing and Healers. He is scheduled to speak July 4 at 6:30pm in the Robert McEwen Auditorium, W141 Seymour Schulich Building.
More than 100 providers of direct patient care from hospitals and other institutions across the country will attend the July 4-5 symposium.
The symposium marks the end of a two-year research project led by York health policy Professor Liane Ginsburg and nursing Professor Deborah Tregunno. It aims to share the findings of their two-year multidisciplinary project sponsored by the Patient Safety Culture Institute that involved representatives from healthcare management, nursing, medicine, organizational psychology and statistics.
The keynote address is free to all. RSVP to Victoria Caparello at caparev@yorku.ca, as space is limited.
