Giving the gift of life

The York community showed how much they cared when students, faculty and staff donated 115 units of blood during the recent Canadian Blood Services blood drive, which took place on York’s Keele campus July 17 to 20. Hosted by York’s Health Education & Promotion, the blood collected during the drive will go to help 345 people in the Greater Toronto Area.

Canadian Blood Services will be back on the Keele campus this fall from Nov. 12 to 16.

  • If you knew only 3.5 per cent of eligible Canadians gave blood, would you give?
  • If you knew that patients in area hospitals use at least 650 – 700 units of blood each day, would you help them by donating blood?
  • How about if you knew that cancer patients use an average of eight units of blood products, each week, during their treatment?

For more information on how to become a donor, or to schedule an opportunity to donate during one of the many clinics throughout the community, visit the Canadian Blood Services Web site, or call 1-888-2-DONATE.

Health Education & Promotion is located within York’s Centre for Student Community & Leadership Development. For more information about other health-related events taking place on the Keele campus, visit www.yorku.ca/healthed.
