Kicking off the school year, York’s Cricket Challenge tournament will give students one last chance to enjoy the summer before they have to pull out their coats. The 2007 York Cricket Challenge Tournament offers an opportunity for everyone to grab a piece of the action. The tournament will showcase York students who not only play cricket – they also live it. For all other students, the tournament provides a venue to learn about the game and get involved through beginner games and lessons.

The tournament takes place from Monday, Sept. 10 to Wednesday, Sept. 12 and runs from 11am to 7pm each day. The outdoor cricket pitch is located at the baseball diamond, at the corner of Keele Street and The Pond Road. Eight teams will battle for the honour of winning this year’s cup. Spectators are encouraged to come out and enjoy prizes, snacks, lessons and live cricket entertainment. Everything is free.
Entering its fifth year, the annual tournament has become a fixture on campus. Avid cricket players and fans look forward to the opportunity to compete for the York Cricket Challenge Cup. The event brings together York’s cricket enthusiasts from a variety of national backgrounds and provides them with a space to play and have fun. New to this year’s tournament are cricket-related games, lessons and instruction that will be offered to members of the audience.
The event’s organizer – york is U – has teamed up with the York Cricket Club to ensure the tournament is a smashing success.
"This event will provide York students great entertainment and exposure to the game. This year they will be able to learn about the game, and have a mini-tournament of their own for a prize." said Tracy Singh, a second-year accounting major and coordinator of the event.
All students, regardless of their cricket experience, are encouraged to come out and learn first-hand what all the excitement is about.
