YFS to host York West candidates’ debate tomorrow

In the lead-up to the provincial election, the York Federation of Students will host an all-candidates debate for the riding of York West, as well as a panel on electoral reform.

The debate will take place tomorrow, Sept. 25, from 1-3 pm, on York’s Keele Campus. It will feature Antoni Shelton, NDP candidate; Mario Sergio, Liberal candidate; and PC candidate Shane O’Toole. There will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions.

“Change the System: A Panel on Electoral Reform,” will take place on Thursday, Sept. 27. It will examine the debate surrounding Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system, which will be the subject of a referendum during the election.

The panel will include: Ed Broadbent, former leader of the NDP; Hugh Segal, Conservative senator; and Kate Holloway, Liberal candidate for Trinity-Spadina and spokesperson for Liberals for MMP.
