Today, more than 40 researchers who have received funding grants from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) are opening their doors between 10am and noon. Students, faculty and staff are invited to see how CFI’s investments in equipment, laboratories and databases are transforming research at York while benefiting people across Canada and around the world.
At Glendon, Professor Daniel Simeoni’s lab will be open as scheduled for CFI Day. Simeoni, a professor in Glendon’s School of Translation, director of the Master’s Program in Translation and member of the graduate program in the humanities, died Sunday following a heart attack. (See the Passings notice in the Nov. 6 issue of YFile.) His colleagues and graduate students have arranged for the lab to be staffed for the open house event so that the community can learn more about the contributions CFI funding made to his research. Simeoni’s lab is located in C204 York Hall.
The open house is part of CFI Day at York, celebrating CFI’s 10th anniversary. Since its creation, CFI has awarded over $24 million to York researchers in disciplines ranging from health and applied mathematics to space science and fine art. Recent projects include the Gordon G. Shepherd Atmospheric Research Facility, located in the Petrie Building, which officially opened in August 2007.
