York University Bookstores is hosting its second annual Textbook & Course Kit Information Session for faculty, administrative assistants and instructors, along with a panel discussion on "The Future of Book Publishing and Book Retailing", on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
This is the bookstore’s kick-off to the spring and fall book buying season. There will be two identical 90-minute sessions on ordering textbooks, course kits and other course material. The first session is at 10:30am and the second at 1:30pm, both in the Senior Common, Room 305, Founders College, Keele campus.
Lunch will be provided in between sessions as panelists Jeff Snooks, director of marketing at McGraw-Hill Publishers, Len Husbands, a University of Toronto Press editor, and Steve Glassman, director of the York University bookstore and printing services, discuss the future of publishing, starting at noon.
Each session will deal with:
- Ordering textbooks, how to do it along with timing issues.
- Working with bookstore staff, what staff can do for faculty and students.
- Selecting and adopting textbooks, advice on working with publishers.
- Creating and ordering course kits, lab manuals and specialized publications.
- The student’s perspective, their needs and how they navigate the bookstore.
Bookstore staff will provide one-on-one discussions and live how-to demonstrations. Session goers will also be given updated reference materials to take with them.
To attend either session, and lunch, RSVP to Michael Legris at mlegris@yorku.ca or call ext. 22078.
