Community & Students – Alfred Anucha Award

Alfred Anucha Award in Entrepreneurship

The Anucha Family is pleased to offer this award in honour of their son and brother, Alfred Anucha, a visionary young entrepreneur who passed away at the age of 26 on March 29, 2021.

Alfred’s passion for entrepreneurship and his unwavering belief in the potential of young people to create were the cornerstones of his life. This award will provide financial assistance and entrepreneurship support to other young Black entrepreneurs like Alfred in partnership with YSpace and the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance (BEA) at York University.

An initial donation of $50,000 from the Anucha Family has created the Alfred Anucha Award in Entrepreneurship (A3E). The A3E will provide $2,500 awards to four young Black entrepreneurs annually. Over five years, the A3E will fund at least 20 young entrepreneurs who will also participate in the free entrepreneurship programming that YSpace offers. Current and past program participants of YSpace are eligible and are encouraged to apply.

“Bet on Yourself. Bet on the Future. This was Alfred’s mantra and encapsulates the vision of A3E”, says Adanna Anucha, Alfred’s sister. “Our family is excited to support young Black entrepreneurs to ‘Bet on Yourself’ just as Alfred did. We hope A3E will serve as a living tribute and memorial to honour Alfred’s legacy as a true innovator and dreamer”.

Join us in celebrating Alfred’s legacy and supporting visionary entrepreneurs like Alfred by
