Investment Bootcamp

Black Entrepreneurship Alliance (BEA) in partnership with York University’s YSpace invites you to apply for the new Investment Bootcamp program to support Black founders as they navigate key stages in their startup journey with the aim of becoming investment ready.

The Investment Bootcamp is a 4-month program designed for early-stage and capital ready, Black-led startups ready to secure funding.

What to expect

Stream 1

  • This stream is for pre-revenue stage startups
  • Educational workshops on navigating pre-seed and seed stage financing rounds
  • Mentorship and guidance on securing early capital
  • One-on-one coaching, advising on fundraising strategy
  • Yspace Membership with access to the incubation program for ongoing support throughout the fundraising process (3 Months)
  • DEI/EDI Training for training stakeholders

Stream 2

  • This stream is for post-revenue stage startups
  • Educational workshops on navigating pre-seed and seed stage financing rounds
  • Mentorship and guidance on securing early capital
  • One-on-one coaching, advising on fundraising strategy
  • Demo day to build 1-1 connections between ventures & investment network
  • Yspace Membership with access to the incubation program for ongoing support throughout the fundraising process (3 Months)
  • DEI/EDI Training for training stakeholders

Application process

Step: One

Step: Two

If chosen, applicants will be contacted by the BEA team for additional information. The selected companies will be asked to complete an onboarding form and provide a pitch deck that will give the programming team an opportunity to better understand the business idea. 

Step: Three

Accepted companies will gain access to resources and support for development. Program participants will have access to curated programming and a variety of tailored resources which include a network of industry experts, startup perks, as well as peer founder circles to continue developing their venture.

Program eligibility

Stream 1

  • You are looking to create foundational funding insights
  • You are looking to understand the funding process by Angels & VCs (reading a term sheet, funding vehicles, etc)
  • You may have limited or no existing traction, but have a validated MVP (preferably with a pilot)
  • You are building the operational structure required for funding rounds
  • Your startup is at least 50% Black owned
  • Must reside in Southern Ontario.

Stream 2

  • You have some existing traction at a minimum $1,000 MRR
  • You understand the investment process, but you need help finding a lead or closing the round
  • You need support with developing post-fund strategy
  • You are building post-fund operational structure (Board, team, future dilution, etc)
  • Your startup is at least 50% Black owned
  • Must reside in Southern Ontario.

There is no guarantee of warm introductions to investors. Applicants will be given foundational knowledge and skill set to navigating fundraising and investor lan

The program will be conducted on-line with the exception of the showcase celebration which will be in person.

The program is comprehensive and requires a commitment of approximately 4-5 hours in terms of meeting time. The program includes weekly workshops, bi-weekly mentor connects, bi-weekly peer sessions, and monthly check-ins with a BEA Program officer and YSpace advisor. 

No prior university or college credentials are required.

Participants must be 18 years or older to participate.
