YU-CARE brings researchers together to collaborate and we highlight the work of our members in the areas of ageism; aging policy; practices to promote healthy aging; approaches to aging equity; the social determinants of health; cultural diversity and aging; gender; physiological and biomechanical processes; cognitive and psychological diseases and approaches to improve; and care settings including hospital, home and long-term care.

YU-CARE member Dr. Lora Appel and her team have published two articles on Virtual Reality Therapy: “virtual Reality for Veteran Relaxation (VR) – Introducing VR – Therapy for Veterans with Dementia- Challenges and Rewards of the Therapists Behind the Scenes” and “Administering Virtual Reality Therapy to Manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms in Patients with Dementia Admitted to an Acute Care Hospital: Results of a Pilot Study”.

YU-CARE Director Tamara Daly has recently co-authored a study in Social Politics: International Studies in Gender, State & Society. The article, titled Borrowed Time and Solidarity: The Multi-Scalar Politics of Time and Gendered Care Work explores the impact of the larger policy context of care work on the ability of care workers to provide quality care.
This spring, YU-CARE member’s Dr. Hannah Wong, Dr. Tamara Daly and Dr. Liane Ginsburg together with Dr. Hsien Seow (McMaster University) were awarded funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
YU CARE Faculty member Dr. Matthias Hoben has authored two research articles based on research data of caregivers of assisted living residents in Alberta. The first paper, assessed caregiver concerns about resident care and how these concerns were significantly higher if caregivers felt that the facilities did not involve and inform them well. The second paper assessed caregiver symptoms of depression and anxiety directly, as well as, factors associated with these symptoms.
