York Homecoming '99 promises to be the biggest and best

Alumni and friends of York are coming back to celebrate our 40th anniversary with us, and the University is marking the occasion with a number of outstanding events for the York community. You won't want to miss it!

The weekend "kicks off" on Thursday evening, Sept. 23, with the opening of the reading series at Calumet College, an MBA mentor wine and cheese party at Schulich School of Business and a homecoming pub night at Stong College.

Friday features include an alumni/student career fair and the dean's open house at Schulich, an alumni/Fellows reception at Atkinson College and a panel discussion/wine and cheese reception at Osgoode Hall Law School. Seneca@York is holding an open house for the York community featuring tours of its newly opened building and program demonstrations by its students and faculty. McLaughlin College will hold a reception and art gallery opening, Vanier College will feature a reception and "improv" and Calumet a reception and dinner, while Winters College and the Faculty of Fine Arts celebrate with a homecoming bash. Both Glendon College and Stong will hold pub nights.

Saturday is the highlight of the weekend with various events all day at Glendon, a golf tournament and banquet at Schulich and the 5th Quarter Club's 30-year club luncheon. From 11am to 1pm join the president and chancellor for their 40th anniversary reception "Jazz It Up!", a real family affair with ... entertainment by the Hot 5 Jazzmakers, cutting the 40th anniversary cake, complimentary refreshments for all guests and free snacks for the kids.

The football game between the York Yeomen and the Western Mustangs starts at 2pm with a pre-game warm-up party at noon. Come out for the big game wearing red and white to support the Yeomen. Of course there will be post game celebrations: Founders College pub, the Varsity/Intermural reunion and a post game concert by 54/40 at the Underground. From 5 to 6 pm York alumnus Nino Ricci will be at the Bookstore, reading from his recent novel, Where Has She Gone.

On Sunday participants can relax over a harvest brunch at Atkinson and browse through the University Bookstore for the latest good read.

Other events include special features all weekend at Glendon, York Lanes homecoming street sale, a University sculpture tour presented by the Art Gallery, a student art show at McLaughlin and free admission on Saturday and Sunday to Black Creek Pioneer Village to homecoming participants (don't forget your York I.D.).

Details of all these events and up to the minute information is available on the York University Alumni Affairs Web site at www. yorku.ca/alumni/homecoming
