Daniel Langlois Foundation

Funding Programs


The Daniel Langlois Foundation provides funds to further artistic and scientific knowledge by fostering the meeting of art and science in the field of technologies; to promote contemporary artistic practices that use digital technologies to express aesthetic and critical forms of discourse; to encourage interdisciplinary research and to sustain the development of projects calling for cooperation between people from a variety of fields such as artists, scientists and technologists or engineers. The first call for projects in January, 1999 gave nearly $1 million for 13 projects.

SSHRC Federations and Federalism Program:

Virtual Institute Grants


The Federations and Federalism Program is intended to further our understanding of federalism and of the relationship between federalism and public policy; to develop a more complete understanding of the operating and evolution of intergovernmental processes, structures and institutions; to contextualize the Canadian experience by studying Canadian federalism in a comparative fashion; and to further understanding of the relationship between globalization and the functioning of multi-level governance processes. The program has several components. Specifically, the Virtual Institute Grants provide up to $90,000/year for two years to defray the costs of creating a Federalism and Federations Research Centre.

Human Resources Development Canada

Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education


This program supports the development of international joint projects among universities, colleges and technical institutions in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The principal aims are to strengthen trilateral cooperation in post-secondary education, training and internship and to increase student mobility. The program seeks to foster student exchange within the context of multilateral curricular development. The program will support collaborative efforts in the form of consortia partnerships consisting of at least two academic institutions from each country. Up to $160,000/year is available for four years.

York Seminar for Advanced Research

The University, through the Gerstein Foundation will provide $7,500 to support a forum in which a small group of distinguished scholars working in closely related fields can consult extensively on a particular theme. The seminar aims to foster, in an appropriate environment, informal yet deep discussion, exploration of the limits of specialized fields and enduring professional and intellectual contacts.

Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
