Rockefeller Foundation

Humanities Fellowships


The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking nine new institutions to host visiting scholars for eight to ten months. Of particular interest are programs that seek to understand global interactions of belief and value systems or to analyze the impact of the mobility of ideas and people on an increasingly global civil society. The Foundation will pay institutions up to $35,000 (US) in salary to the visiting scholar, plus $2,000 (US) towards travel, benefits, and relocation costs.

York Seminar

in Advanced Research


Funds are available to support a forum in which a small group of distinguished scholars working in closely related fields can consult extensively on a particular theme. The seminar aims to foster, in an appropriate environment, informal yet deep disussion, exploration of the limits of specialized fields, and enduring professional and intellectual contacts. The recipients will receive $7,500, plus a graduate assistant to support the seminar during the 2000-2001 academic year.

Deadline: Nov. 30.


Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

Interdisciplinary Health Research Teams


CIHR is offering up to $4 million during the 2000-2001 fiscal year to support teams of five or more researchers who will pool their expertise, different perspectives and resources to address or resolve an important health research issue. Teams invited to submit full proposals may be offered developmental grants of $5,000-$15,000 to assist in preparation of their proposals or in expanding their network of partners and programs of activities to consolidate the collaboration.

Deadline: Jan. 17 for letters of intent; June 5 for full proposals.


SSHRC

Community Alliances for Health Research (CAHR)


Up to $4 million in funding will be available in the 2000-2001 fiscal year to foster high-quality research of relevance to community groups and agencies, in the four themes of health research-biomedical, applied clinical, health services and systems, the social and cultural determinants of health and through partnership with researchers based in local universities, hospitals and other not-for-profit institutions.

Deadline: Jan. 17 for letters of intent; June 5 for full proposals.

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) would like to remind faculty members of these research opportunities with upcoming deadlines. Deadlines listed are those of the granting agencies. Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
