Membership

Membership in YURA is open to all retired employees of York University. The association provides activities, communication, certain privileges, and representation for pensions and benefits on behalf of members. The annual fee for membership is currently $25.00. The membership year runs from October 1 to September 30. Annual fees are due on or before September 30. New members may join at any time.

Membership is also open to spouses or partners, even if they have not worked at York, although they may not be eligible for all of the campus privileges that are available to former employees.

Numbering approximately 500 members, YURA has an elected Executive Committee and an office located in the Lorna Marsden Honour Court, located at 55 York Blvd., to the north of the Schulich School of Business and just east of the York University subway station. The office is administered on a part-time basis by volunteer members of YURA and can be reached by telephone at 416-736-2100, ext. 70664; or by e-mail at yura@yorku.ca. Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., September to June. (During summer months, messages left at the office by phone and e-mail are retrieved and returned.)

YURA holds an Annual General Meeting in late October or early November each year, at which time members receive reports on activities and finances, and the composition of the Executive Committee for the following year is affirmed.  This year’s AGM will again be in hybrid format to allow for the greatest possible participation, to include those who for different reasons prefer to attend virtually, as well as those who can attend in person and connect with other YURA members over an informal lunch. Our confirmed guest speaker at the event will be Dr. Glen Jones, Professor of Higher Education, and former dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education — an educational leader with considerable insight into the current state and future direction of postsecondary education in Canada. The date will be Friday, November 1, 2024. Information about the AGM will be forthcoming in our Fall Newsletter and on this web site. Notification of the AGM will be circulated by e-mail to registered members and relevant reports and other materials will be posted on the AGM page of this web site
