Transnational
practices and institutions (including initiatives led by home states
and parties, as well as migrant groups),
Canadian
policies, institutions and organizations, and
social,
economic and political modes of incorporation in Canada.
This
project will provide a comparative analysis of groups whose displacement
was prompted by political upheaval and violence. Newcomer incorporation
will be approached from "transnational" perspective, recognizing
that incorporation is a complex social process that does not preclude, and
may be accompanied by, the maintenance of social, economic, and political
ties with homeland.
