Laxton - last English open-field village
Laxton is the only village in Britain still practicing open-field farming. More than 450 acres of farmland is divided into three large unenclosed fields: South Field, Mill Field, and West Field. The fields are farmed in strips, on a three year cycle, with one field lying fallow each year. In November each year the Leet Court meets in the local pub, The Dovecote, to divide the land amongst the local farmers for the following year.
