Audio Quizzes

These quizzes were created to support the workbook Introduction to IPA. To hear the sound files, you will need a program capable of playing .mp3 files. For a list of programs for your computer platform and instructions on downloading them, visit mp3.com and select the appropriate platform for your computer. The computers at York all have QuickTime installed, which will play the files for you. Unfortunately, the recordings make me sound like I have a terrible cold! After playing file, you will have to use your browser's back button to return to this page.

The later quizzes, focussing on the vowels, repeat each word three times quite quickly. You may need to listen to the sound files several times to complete each exercise.
