Our public outreach strategy was refined in consultation with partners from the community and policy working groups. Our goal is to reach multiple audiences with information on immigrants and precarious work. Specifically, we work with our partners to produce information and place it strategically so that it can be of use to the partners, and other community and service organizations, academics and policy analysts. Ultimately, we hope to contribute to community information building and exchanges, staff training, organizational capacity building, grassroots campaigns, policy analysis, and to developing strategies that our partners can use to influence policy.
To ensure communication among researchers and working group partners, we will be meeting with each working group at key moments throughout the life of the project (three to four times with each). Minutes of the meetings will be posted under Project Materials.
In order to implement our public outreach objectives, the project will conduct and support the following knowledge mobilization activities and produce associated dissemination materials:
Thematic workshops for multi service agency managers and frontline workers: These workshops will present findings on how newcomer’s employment experiences impact their interactions with community and public institutions. Frontline worker training modules will address social isolation, immigrants’ strategies to improve working conditions, and highlight best and worst practices. Materials will be available for subsequent use by others.
Community forums: Forums will focus on the issues of precarious work and precarious legal status. They will showcase project findings, partner advocacy campaigns and available services. We will participate in established forums (e.g. ongoing or periodic gatherings coordinated by partners or other community organizations), and work with partners to plan and hold a limited number of strategic forums that bring together a broader range of participants.
Policy briefs: These will be directed to policy analysts in the community sector, government staff, and policy makers.
Materials for grassroots campaigns: these materials are intended to support ongoing grassroots campaigns.
Reports and academic papers: These materials will be based on our research findings and incorporate our partners’ feedback. They will be available on the publications & presentations part of the website as they become available so that professionals and other interested parties can access and use them in their work.
