Research

Research interests include:  sexual labour and transactional sex; human trafficking and international migration; Caribbean sexuality; race and ethnic relations; transnational and Caribbean feminist theory and methodologies; gender and development.

From research on migrant sexual labour in the Dutch Caribbean, Kamala Kempadoo’s focus has broadened to include global issues of “the traffic of women” and sexual-economic transactional relations. Much of her research is collaborative but she has also conducted policy-oriented research for UN and intergovernmental agencies. Her current projects centre on Caribbean feminist research methodologies and a Canada-InterGuianas gender studies exchange.
