Outreach and Training:
(since 2009, including International Polar Year (IPY) Activities)
- Conducted a research visit to the Resolute Bay High School. Anna Abnizova established a website for students: polardiary.com
- We trained a Resolute Bay High School student at Polar Bear Pass (Ms. Valerie Amarilliak). Valerie is now working at the Co-op, Resolute Bay
- We organized a circumpolar hydrology conference: 17th International Northern Research Basins Symposium & Workshop (NRB) (Iqaluit-Pangnirtung-Kuujjuaq), Aug. 12-18th, 2009
- We held Open House events at Polar Bear Pass for Resolute Bay Elders and community members
- We held media interviews (radio, t.v., and print) relating to our research at PBP and the 17th NRB meeting
- 2013: I led a 3rd year physical geography undergraduate field studies and research design course to New York City to study the Impact of Hurricane Sandy (beach erosion, vegetation diversity). We stayed near Broadway and Times Square and we took the subway every day to our study sites at Rockaway Beach, Queen’s. - In 2014, I organized a one-day Campbell Scientific Workshop. Claude Labine, CSO of Campbell Scientific Canada, Corp. led the workshop. There were 23 participants including undergraduate and graduate students from across York University (Geography, Biology, Engineering), and members from the wind industry.
