( C ) Coding The Images

     The next step in Content Analysis is the actual coding of the image. In this analysis, each episode in season 2 of the Sopranoís is coded and categorized. Although many of the episodes deal with more then one issue or content, each episode can only be put into a maximum of two categories. We must remember that this content analysis deals with the entire second season of the show and the fact that each individual episode deals with many content areas makes it very difficult to quantitatively keep count and to place each episode in one catagory. As a result, it was necessary to keep a cap of a maximum of two categories for each episode.

     For instance, the following is an summary of episode 14, ë Guy Walks Into Psychiatric Office í :

Itís the season premier of the second Anno Soprano and Tonyís now the sole boss of New Jersey. Life should be good, right ? But Junior is in jail, Livia is in the hospital, and Dr. Melfi has to use a motel room to meet with her patients except Tony, whom she refuses to allow anywhere near her. If that werenít enough, Tonyís long lost Janice ‚ who legally changed her name to Parvati when she joined the commune, - has returned to the family. And will Tony ever find out what really happened to Pussy ? ‚ Episode 14

     This Episode would be categorized under FAMILY and also TONYíS SICKNESS AND PSYCHIATRIST. It is important to note that although we could have put this episode into more categories, the above two were the most prevalent in this episode and were thus categorized as such.
