Complication

Grace Cuiming Li

In the above episode example, complications include Chandler and Monica getting tired of kidding their relationship from the group. A second example is when Ross has to salvage his marriage with Emily by not seeing Rachel anymore. He doesnít consider talking with Emily to solve the problem. In addition, Rachel doesnít want to give up Ross nor does she want to stop seeing him for fear of fading out of the six friendsí gang. Each of the complications is fairly simple and straightforward, and do not lead the characters to any great moral decision or mental strain. They lead quite naturally to some type of action, in which the characters do something to solve the complication: Chandler and Monica continue to keep their relationship a secret even after Joey has it figured out; all friends, in particular Ross, try to comfort Rachel by assuring her that no one will fade out from the group.
