The
sitcom celebrates the family, the room in which it operates, and its own
politics of negotiation and compromise. Hence, there is a continuous section
which reveals a linear sequence of spaces: family room to dining room
to kitchenÖ or reception to waiting to office... In domestic comedies
this is usually the family room or kitchen, yet in situation comedy this
is often the restaurant or coffee shop. The majority of action and dialogue
occurs here. The
actual sets are typically programmatically disjunctive spaces, which are
rejoined into a logical understanding through camera edits.
