          A factor applicable to all types of sitcoms is that the themes, plots, complications and characterizations are firmly rooted in the idealized American middle-class, either by representing it or departing from it. Because a majority of American television viewers fit into this class, this foundation is of great value in a way that establishes the societal norms, which have already been known to a majority of the audience.
