Patient Safety Culture

Patient safety has emerged as an important research priority in healthcare. This series of subpages provide information about ongoing research initiatives in the area of patient safety culture measurement research being carried out by researchers at York University.

This site offers the latest version of the MSI Patient Safety Culture Questionnaire (MSI-2010) and it provides documents from a symposium we held in July 2007 entitled: "Patient Safety Culture: The Truth and Nothing But". A final report on the Perceptions of Patient Safety Culture in Six Canadian Healthcare Organizations from 2007 is also housed on this site along with an initial pan-Canadian Patient Safety Culture database from that time (data on perceptions of patient safety culture for various different staff groups and care settings).

The research showcased on this site aims to meet the needs of a growing number of decision makers wishing to assess patient safety culture in various jurisdictions and health care settings. We hope to create and transfer knowledge that can help organizations to effectively assess patient safety culture and help them think about how to make use of these data to improve patient safety.

Most of the work on this site is related to a study funded by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI). The research team is truly multidisciplinary with representatives from healthcare management, nursing, medicine, organizational psychology and statistics.
