Director
Joseph Mensah—[BA Hons. (Ghana);
M.A. (WLU, Waterloo); Ph.D. (Alberta)]—is an Associate
Professor of Geography at the School of Social Sciences,
Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies at York
University in Toronto. He is also a faculty member of the
Geography and Sociology graduate programs at the Faculty
of Arts at York. His current research interest is in critical
development theory; religious transnationalism, race, space,
and employment; and social research methods. Professor Mensah
has written several refereed journal articles and contributed
chapters to a number of books. He is the author of Black
Canadians: History, Experience, Social Conditions (Fernwood,
2002); co-editor of Globalization and the Human Factor:
Critical Insight (Ash gate, 2004); and the editor of Understanding
Economic Reforms in Africa: A Tale of Seven Nations (Palgrave,
forthcoming in 2006).

Rachel Asare (All Nations Full Gospel Church)
Rachel Asare - is a recent graduate from York University.
She holds an honours Bachelor degree in Psychology, she remains
very active in the local and international community. Her past
achievements include 2004 recipient of All Nation’s International
Development Agency internship to Ghana; guest speaker at the
annual 2005 Black History conference at the Harriet Tubman
center on the African Diaspora; her published work includes
A Stranger at Home: A Ghanaian-Canadian’s Experience- available
to view at http://www.yorku.ca/nhp/newsletter/Tubman_Newsletter_May_2005.pdf. Her community work includes volunteer placements at grass root
level organizations, and churches.

Phyllis Ameyaw (All Nations Full Gospel Church)
Phyllis is currently a final year student at York
University pursuing Bachelor of Social Work. My
interest is in Women Abuse issues and Child Welfare.

Elsie Techi-Mensah (Church
of Pentecost)
Elsie Tachie-Mensah - is currently a third year student at
York University, pursuing a BSc Honours in Biology. She
is an active member of the Church of Pentecost Canada, participating
as a Grade One Sunday School teacher. |

David Firang (Ghana Methodist Church, Toronto)
David Firang - [BA Hons. (Ghana); M.A. (Saskatchewan); MSW
(Toronto); Post Dip (British Columbia). Currently, David is
a second year Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Social Work,
University of Toronto. His research interest focuses on social
capital, housing, immigrant settlement and integration process.
David is also a Child Welfare Officer at the Children Aids
Society of Toronto. David was awarded the Royal Bank Research
Fellowship at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto
for the academic year 2005. David is a co-author of the article “The
Condition of Human Well-being in Africa: Revisiting the Physical
Quality of Life Index”, in The Human Factor in Shaping the
course of History and Development, with Prof. J. Mensah.

Anita Gombos- [BA Hons.(York); Cert. Anti-Racist Research
and Practice
(CARRP)(York)]-- is a graduate student at York University in
the MA
Sociology Programme in Toronto. She guest lecturers in Sociology
at Atkinson
College, York University. As well, she has presented at All
Nations
University (ANU) in Ghana. Her research interests include immigration,
racism and anti-racism, sociology of health and women's health. |

Joseph Adubofuor- [BA Hons. (York); M.E.S. (York); PhD Candidate
(Ghana)]
Working Thesis Title: The Impact of Mining Industry on the
Physical and Social
Environment. In 2000, Joseph also created a documentary –SITTING
ON TOP OF
GOLD; a project on Ethics of Development Induced Displacement
(EDID) –a 7 year
project headed by the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University.
