The term PRE-PAID stands for "Pre-diabetes detection and physical activity
intervention delivery"
This project hopes to determine the effectiveness of a community-based
physical activity program as well as a self-management workshop for people
with chronic diseases. We hope that our program will help people lower their
risk of developing diabetes and provide a framework for future diabetes
programs.
The PRE-PAID project is currently targeting people age 40-64 who belong
to the following high-risk ethnicities;
Chinese South Asian African or African-Caribbean
If you are South Asian or African or African Caribbean, and you live in the
Jane-Finch community in Toronto, or if you are Chinese and you live in the
Scarborough Agincourt North community, you may be eligible!
The program will feature activities that are "culturally preferred."
During screening, interested participants will have blood tests performed,
as well as a brief risk assessment.
Participants who are eligible will participate in;
Either
- A) A FREE 6 month supervised physical activity
intervention
OR
- B) A FREE 6 week professionally taught
self-management workshop and educational
materials on healthy living
If you are eligible, you will go through;
