The Developmental History of Athletes Questionnaire (DHAQ) was created and validated specifically for the Pathways to the Podium Research Project. (See our “Publications and Presentations” page for more detailed information regarding the development of the DHAQ.)
All athletes involved in the Pathways to the Podium Research Project completed an online version of the DHAQ unsupervised, at a time and location of their choice. The DHAQ takes approximately one hour to complete from start to finish, however responses can be saved and returned to unlimited times, so the questionnaire may be completed in multiple short periods if preferred.
The following items are addressed within the Developmental History of Athletes Questionnaire:
Demographic information:
- Age
- Sex
- Date of birth
- Country of residence
- Level of education
Your sporting career:
- Main sport
- Have you reached the peak of your career / when do you expect to reach the peak of your career
- Age at attaining various sporting milestones
- Representative history
Your practice history:
- Participation in sport specific physical practice
- Participation in physical preparation activities
- Participation in mental preparation activities
- Participation in training camps
- Participation in informal play relating to your main sport
Your competition history:
- Participation in regular season competitions
- Participation in occasional competitions
- Participation in tournament competitions
Your participation in other sporting activities:
- Participation in other organised sports
- Participation in playful sporting games other than those relating to your main sport
Your family:
- Basic demographic information about members of your immediate family
- Basic information about the frequency of your family's participation in sport and physical activity
- Basic information about your family's involvement in competitive sports
Where you have lived:
- Basic information about the towns / cities in which you have lived
