ETHOS, PATHOS, LOGOS

hese are the three main ways one can use RHETORIC the art of persuasion. Each one has its own distinct way it appeals to the reader. ETHOS is a way to appeal to authorities to provide more credibility for the audience. LOGOS is a way to appeal to the reader by using logic and reason. If literature is written in a way that seems to make sense, is organized, and logical, there is a greater chance the reader will be persuaded by it. PATHOS is an appeal to emotions, whether it is fear, sympathy or desire, it will make the reader feel something. These three types of appeals are evident in the writings of THE TORONTO STAR and explanations of the articles are given in the breakdown of examples of sexist usage in The Toronto Star
