DISCUSSION

In my look at That 70's Show I chose to use the audience analysis method of trying to answer our research question (link to the research question). This method was an interesting look at the viewing practices of people. It gave me a look at what people believe they are getting from the shows that they watch. The results from the survey would suggest that people do read the television as a text. I'm not sure if I can conclude that people are aware that they are reading television as a text when they watch it. But it is clear by the response that I got from my survey that not everyone is reading the exact same thing from the text of That 70's Show. An interesting correlation that I found when I was tabulating the responses were that the more a person watched television the more likely this person would feel that the show they watched was geared to them.

As I stated earlier the more television a person watched the more likely they would be knowledgeable in the code and conventions of television, which would aid in their ability to read television as a text. However in my survey of people views on That 70's Show no two people respond the exact same way to every question. This would suggest that people seem to interact on some level with the show that they are watching in how they are interpreting the text that they are reading.
