Prof. Shan received funding from Canadian Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) to build “York Research Facility for Autonomous Unmanned Vehicles”. Prof. Shan was elected to the grade of Associate Fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Dr. Ti Chen and Dr. Shiyuan Jia joined SDCNLab as Post-doctoral Fellows (PDF) and will be working on dynamics and control. Dr. Chen and Dr. Jia got their PhD degrees from NUAA and BUAA, respectively.
Mr. Scott Judzentis joined SDCNLab as a M.Sc. student, starting from September. Scott was a space engineering student at York and had worked at SDCNLab as a part-time research student in the past.

Two papers on piezoelectric actuators from SDCNLab have been accepted by IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.

Prof. Shan has been appointed as the Undergraduate Program Director for Space Engineering, starting from July 1, 2017.
April 25, 2017 [Research]
On April 9, 2017, SDCNLab successfully launched its modified imaging Fabry-Perot Spectrometer through a stratospheric balloon flight in Alice Springs, Australia. This balloon flight was supported by a FAST grant from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) SDCNLab received in December 2016. Prof. Shan, Ganesh and Mike went to Australia and attended this balloon flight. The modified instrument worked very well and data processing is on-going. Dr. Zhi Li started his Humboldt Fellowship at University of Magdeburg in March 2017. Zhi completed his one-year post-doctoral fellowship at SDCNLab. All the best, Zhi!

SDCNLab won another CSA FAST grant to re-fly our modified Fabry-Perot imaging spectrometer in Alice Springs, Australia in April 2017. We expect another excited balloon flight campaign.
